More Jelly Riding

While Keri and I and Zoe and Elektra were doing our exercises in the indoor -- Kelly brought Ivan up for a good brushing and saddled him up for a short trot out on some trail on the other side of the highway. We head down my road toward Route 11.. it has rained buckets all night - so the trail will be wet.

This ride was actually last week - and Muzzle loader season has not begun yet... so we are trotting trail like crazy while the opportunity is there. Ivan is such a great young fellow.. he doe snot get out as often as he should but he is always perfection when he does ! This is the first time Kelly has ridden him.

Zoe is in the lead - watching for the appropriate time to cross the highway.

Once on the other side - Keri and I opt to walk down the brook - Ivan is a champ at brook walking, but Kelly did not feel like urging him down the bank -- and Elektra .. Miss Dressage horse -- she still had her wraps on so Zoe stayed on the trail... however - if she thought it was going to keep those wraps dry.. not happening anyway.

One feature about this particular trail that we like -- especially for young green horses-- is the fact that there are several water crossings and a nice variety of rolling up and down terrain.

In Keri's youth - she always insisted on jumping this little water crossing. Now- many years and many half halts later -- she calmly can walk down the incline and walk nicely across the small brook. She's a silly girl sometimes.

Back out of the trail to cross the highway again.

Ivan and Kelly take the lead down the hill onto the road back home.
A short ride, but lots of fun -- and Ivan totally enjoyed himself. He is going to make someone such a dependable steady fun mount !
Since this trip out.. we had one small snowstorm -- and now today -- our first BIG snowstorm. The first one with more than 6 inches is always difficult for me -- lots of plowing to be done for lesson parking and riders.. I always know it's coming.. but kind of dread the first big storm. After that, it's winter and I adapt :) Snow is prettier than mud anyway.
Enjoy ~
